One of my favorite UFO sightings is the April 14th, 1561 sighting in Nuremberg, Germany.
I like this one because there were as they said, "many" witnesses, and it was famous enough for Hans Glaser to do a woodcut engraving of the event for a broadsheet news article.
That's not usually the reaction you get out of a hoax or a mass hysteria.
Evidently everyone back then were extremely cowardly and superstitious.
Of course Carl Jung brought this woodcutting to light in his book "Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen in the Skies" in 1958.
He and Otto Billig chalked it up to mass hysteria.
And since that wasn’t good enough, scientists have also tried to write it off as light refraction through clouds of light crystals, and say the event has been "well explained".
UFO enthusiasts have named it the "UFO Battle over Nuremberg".
One of the more interesting theories though has nothing to do with UFOs at all.
There is a theory that perhaps there was a timeslip amd that a portal opened, and the citizens of Nuremberg in 1561 were actually seeing the Battle of Nuremberg that would take place in....1945.
To me, that is actually a cooler story than UFOs.
