Popular Mechanics and UFOs

Popular Mechanics bothers me.
Yeah I know it's almost an American institution, but has anyone noticed how they seem to jump on the debunking bandwagon every time they get a chance?
First it was 9/11 and now UFOs.
PM seems to be almost vehemently opposed to anyone questioning the US Government about anything.
And if you do, you're a nut case of just an idiot.

Case in point is their new article debunking the NASA shuttle UFO videos....

"The scenario goes like this: Its 1996; you're an astronaut and you're looking at a UFO. This is quite possibly the biggest, most game-changing scientific discovery in the history of mankind. And here you are, gliding through space in low Earth orbit, watching this alien craft dance around your video camera's viewfinder. You are not alone—there are other astronauts onboard the space shuttle, and mission control is watching the live feed from Houston. Yet not a single raised voice or mention of ETs or UFOs can be heard on the audio of this recording. Apparently, it's just another routine brush with extraterrestrial life, and another day in the life of a massive, decades-long, multiagency coverup. "

It's good to see that at least the commenters are keeping an open mind.
And even calling PM to task about their across the board debunking.

The recent article is almost as good as their past "6 Top-Secret Aircraft that are Mistaken for UFOs"

Yep, I'd mistake a F-117A Nighthawk for a black triangle the length of a football field or bigger.

And the Phoenix lights were military flares no matter that former Arizona Governor Fife Symington III said....

" I'm a pilot and I know just about every machine that flies. It was bigger than anything that I've ever seen. It remains a great mystery. Other people saw it, responsible people. I don't know why people would ridicule it."

"It was enormous and inexplicable. Who knows where it came from? A lot of people saw it, and I saw it too. It was dramatic. And it couldn't have been flares because it was too symmetrical. It had a geometric outline, a constant shape."

"As a pilot and a former Air Force Officer, I can definitively say that this craft did not resemble any man made object I'd ever seen. And it was certainly not high-altitude flares because flares don't fly in formation."

Give us something better than flares and 69 foot long plane.

The Persistence of Chronic Skepticism

The Persistence of Chronic Skepticism
R. Lee
July 15, 2007

The recent (July 13) Larry King program Are UFOs Real? on Roswell and UFOs had quite a panel: Roswell witnesses Jesse Marcel, Julie Shuster of the International UFO Museum and research Center in Roswell and daughter of Walter Haut. (Haut was public information officer at Roswell and was responsible for the press release announcing a “crashed disk” had been recovered,) ex-Arizona Governor Fyfe Symington, who openly mocked the Phoenix Lights sightings but recently came out to say he himself saw the UFO, UFO, astronaut Buzz Aldrin, (who seemed to have a debunking agenda of his own, but that’s deserving of an article all its own,) talk radio Coast to Coast’s host George Noory, UFO researcher Stanton Friedman, UFO documentary producer James Fox (Out of the Blue,) and arch skeptic Michael Shermer, among others.
