18 Inches of Rain Overnite in Texas
The central part of Texas was inundated overnight with monsoon-like rainfall. Some areas northwest of the state capital of Austin received as much as 18 inches of rain during the overnight hours. Three Texas' counties were particularly hard hit.
Severe flooding has developed and during the night rescue agencies were hampered in their rescue efforts because of the storm's intensity. Helicopter crews had to abandon several pre-dawn rescue attempts because of the stormy atmosphere.
In Oklahoma, flooding was nearly as bad. The Oklahoma City area received it's 15th straight day of rainfall setting a new all-time record for the number consecutive days of rainfall.
