Have you heard about Area 51?
No not the place in the Nevada desert, the new book by Annie Jacobsen.
The book is filled with interviews with scientists and engineers who worked in Area 51.

In the book, they totally toss out the whole alien angle and say that the Roswell incident was a result of a plan cooked up by Soviet dictator Josef Stalin and the Nazi “Angel of Death” Dr Joseph Mengele.
Yeah, they say the conspiracy theorists are crazy.
Get a load of this....
Allegedly Stalin was inspired by Orson Wells’s War of the Worlds radio broadcast and thought that landing a UFO full of surgically altered 12 and 13 year old children (altered by the infamous Angel of Death himself for Stalin) would freak people out like the radio broadcast did.
The "UFO" was actually a German, jet-propelled, single wing aircraft, the Horton Ho 229 that was captured by the Russians at the end of the war.
The plane was remotely piloted by another aircraft, but crashed during a powerful storm, giving birth to the Roswell legend.

Okay.

So it wasn't Project Mogul, it was a plot devised by The Red Skull and Baron Zemo to...wait, that's a comic book, not real life....
But really wouldn't the Skull and Zemo make more sense?
(Okay I know they were Nazis but still)

Okay, just for starters...how did the Soviets get the Horton Ho 229 into New Mexico?
Did they sneak it over in a Russian freighter and fly it out?
Since it was remotely piloted by another aircraft, where did the other aircraft come from?
If the Ho 229 was "a forerunner of the modern B2 stealth bomber" maybe I can buy the Ho 229 getting through radar, but what about the controlling aircraft?
Was it stealth as well?
If so, that means the Soviet Union has had stealth technology since the late 1940s.

I don't really think it looks much like a flying saucer.
Does it really look futuristic enough to terrify people?
You know once that sucker landed in a populated area, the US Military would take a "shoot first, ask questions later" attitude.
Autopsies would follow in which the "aliens" would be revealed as surgically altered children.
The Horton Ho 229 would be stripped down and quickly determined to be of terrestrial origin, considering the US already had their own flying wing aircraft in the works then.

It would seem the whole scheme would be a gigantic waste of time.

And The Red Skull and Baron Zemo could have come up with a much better one.

The Top Twenty Conspiracy Theories

As you can probably guess, I love to read about and investigate conspiracy theories.
A long time ago, I did a list of the most popular ones, but time changes things and new conspiracies have moved into the forefront, others have faded, and some old ones have been revived.
Really, I was kind of amazed at how some had dropped and others have come up.
So let's take a quick look at the most searched for conspiracy theories as of right now.....

1. Area 51
Yep, the good old standby Area 51 is at the top of the list of government conspiracy theories.
This despite the fact that Roadrunners Internationale has gone public with what they know....

2. Da Vinci Code Conspiracy
There are quite a few out there that believe Dan Brown's book is more fact than fiction.
I preferred Umberto Eco's Foucault's Pendulum myself.

3. New World Order Conspiracy
Yes this one has been around for years, but is still very popular.
One reason may be that if you take a look around you, it doesn't seem like that much of a theory anymore.

4. Vaccines Conspiracy Theories
Like several of the others, this theory seems to get juiced now and then.
And it get mentioned in main stream media a lot.

5. Aspartame Dangers
This one I have to go along with.
I cant see any way this stuff couldn't hurt you, and I personally refer to it as "poison" in conversations.
Usually in grocery stores...really loudly...in front of people.

6. Denver International Airport Conspiracy
Yes, this one gets a lot of press too.
I saw the episode of Conspiracy Theory with Jesse Ventura when he went there.
The paintings are creepy.

7. JFK Assassination Conspiracy
This one has gone on forever.
Well since 1963 at least.
Funny thing is, I recall people in the late 60s saying they thought it was a conspiracy.

8. Reptilian Conspiracy
I'm surprised this one has dropped like it has.
It still seems to be pretty popular on this blog.

9. Skull and Bones Society
Probably the worst secret society in the world, because everyone knows about them!

10. 9 11 Conspiracy Theories
I am REALLY shocked this one has dropped down this far.
I mean, I hear something about this almost everyday in the news.
Has apathy set in?

11. Pearl Harbor Attack
Another one of the government conspiracies that has hung on for years.
Funny thing is, I remember my uncle (who fought in the Pacific in WW2) saying back in the 60s (he died in the 70s) that FDR knew the attack was coming.

12. Fluoride in Water
And here's another I have heard conspiracies theories about since the 60s.
By the way, in case you were wondering, my whole family was Southern Baptist, Republican and came from farming stock.
They didn't consider conspiracies like this to be liberal thinking.

13. Genetically-Modified Foods
Another "The Government is trying to kill us / control us" through food theory.

14. The Freemasons Conspiracy
Another constant favorite that I am surprised ranked this low.
Just one of the many groups bent on world domination.

15. Black Helicopters Conspiracy
This one is down to 15, and I expect to see it drop further with the advent of military drones and more advanced electronic surveillance techniques.
Why use clunky choppers when you can spy on someone from way up in the air?

16. Roswell UFO Incident
Again, I really don't see how these rumors will ever go away.
There is too much folklore built up around the incident.
I personally think "something" happened there, I just don't know for sure what.

17. Martin Luther King Assassination Conspiracy
Like JFK, I don't see this one ever really going away.
Even Jesse Jackson (who was with King at the time of his death) doesn't believe James Earl Ray acted alone.

18. Moon Landing Conspiracy
What can I say about this one?
Even when NASA released low-resolution engineering test photographs of the Apollo 11, Apollo 14, Apollo 15, Apollo 16 and Apollo 17 landing sites, the conspiracy theories didnt end.
After all, they came from NASA right?
Of course if we didn't land on the moon, that busts up some of the "Astronauts saw alien ships on the moon" theories.

19. The Bilderberg Group Conspiracy
I have the same problem with the Bilderberg Group Conspiracy as I do many others.
If one is right, the others are wrong.
One one hand we have them dedicated to taking over the world, but on the other hand we have The Freemasons, The United Nations, The Skull and Bones Society, The Council on Foreign Relations, The Trilateral Commission, The Vatican and/or The Jesuits and the Reptilians with the same goal in mind.
Isn't that kinda like having the Legion of Doom from the old Super Friends cartoon fighting each other?

20. The Jesuits
Well since I just mentioned them, here they are rounding out the top twenty.
Although usually portrayed as bad guys, they have themselves been criticized by the Church for deviating from official Church teaching and papal directives.
In light of current news...is that a bad thing?
And also, over one hundred Jesuit priests gave their lives during the Holocaust to rescue or give refuge to Jews.

Now I hope this article didn't sound too light-hearted.
As far as conspiracies go, I tend to look at all sides, and there are some that yes, I do give a grain of truth too.
And a few, WAY more than a grain.
But I look at conspiracy theories like any other theory.
It's just that...a theory.

You should always do your own research and find out about these things yourself.
Don't be spoon fed info by ANYONE!

IT sounds like a case that only the X-Files detective Fox Mulder would be willing to accept. But a secret plot to harbour aliens at a remote military base in a desert in the United States is, it seems, a generally-held truth among British adults.
A new survey, published today, has revealed that almost half of those polled believe there is some truth in the legend of Area 51. The conspiracy theory holds that Groom Lake, in Nevada, was a covert base for extra-terrestrial studies, after a spaceship crashed there in the 1950s.

A reporter and news director for the local radio station WHJB, John Murphy, arrived on the scene of the event before authorities had arrived, in response to several calls to the station from alarmed citizens, and took several photographs and conducted interviews with witnesses. His former wife Bonnie Milslagle later reported that all but one roll of the film were confiscated by military personnel. WHJB office manager Mabel Mazza described one of the pictures: "It was very dark and it was with a lot of trees around and everything. And I don't know how far away from the site he was. But I did see a picture of a sort of a cone-like thing. It's the only time I ever saw it."

In the following weeks, Murphy became enveloped with the incident and wrote a radio documentary called Object in the Woods, featuring his experiences and interviews he had conducted that night. Shortly before the documentary would've aired, he received an unexpected visit at the station from two men in black suits identifying themselves as government officials. They requested to speak with him in a back room behind closed doors. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes. A WHJB employee, Linda Foschia, recalled the men had confiscated some of Murphy's audio tapes from that night, and that no one knows what happened to the remaining photographs. A week after the visit, an agitated Murphy aired a censored version of the documentary, which he claimed in its introduction had to be edited due to some interviewees requesting their statements be removed from the broadcast in fear of getting in trouble with the police and Army. The new version contained nothing revealing, and didn't mention an object at all. Mazza remembers the aired documentary was entirely different from what Murphy had originally written.

After the airing, Murphy became uncharacteristically despondent and completely stopped all investigation on the case and refused to talk to anyone about it again, and never gave clear reasons why. In 1969, John Murphy was struck and killed by an unidentified car in an apparent hit-and-run while crossing a road. The hit-and-run occurred in California, while Murphy was on vacation

Area 51

Area 51 (officially known as Air Force Flight Test Center, Detachment 3 and also known as Dreamland, Watertown Strip, Paradise Ranch, The Box, Groom Lake, Neverland, and other names) is a remote tract of land in the southwestern portion of Lincoln County in southern Nevada, located at 37°14′20″N 115°48′58″W / 37.239, -115.816, at the southern edge of a large dry salt flat called Groom Lake. It lies within the Nevada Test and Training Range and is owned by the United States Department of Defense and the United States Air Force. Area 51 contains an airfield whose primary purpose is believed to be the operation and analysis of enemy aircraft and weapons systems, and secret development and testing of new military aircraft. It is also believed that a number of Soviet aircraft obtained by the United States through various means are kept at Area 51 for study. Area 51 is the frequent subject of UFO conspiracy theories.

Its secretive nature and undoubted connection to classified aircraft research, together with reports of unusual phenomena, have led Area 51 to become a focus of modern UFO and conspiracy theory. Some of the unconventional activities claimed to be underway at Area 51 include:

In 1989, Bob Lazar claimed that he had worked at a facility at Papoose Lake (which he called S-4) on such a U.S. Government flying saucer.

One major hypothesis is that Area 51 is a place which simulates the environment of the moon. In 2000-2001, Fox Television broadcast a show about Apollo moon landing hoax accusations, in which it was suggested that the whole moon landing in 1969 was a hoax and was filmed in parts of Area 51.

Others, however, claim that during the mid 1990s, the most secret work previously done at Groom was quietly moved to other facilities, including Dugway Proving Ground in Utah, and that the continued secrecy around Groom is largely a successful attempt at misdirection.

In July 1996, a man named "Victor" announced on Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM radio show that he had a videotape of an alien interrogation which had taken place in Area 51. He claimed that he had made a copy of the tape during a scheduled transfer of analogue videotape files on the base into digital form, and had then smuggled the copy out of Area 51. The video appears to show the head of an alien creature in a dark interrogation room, possibly using telepathy to communicate with military personnel and scientists.The footage was eventually included in a video documentary entitled Area 51: The Alien Interview. ( I'm sorry, even if this tape is fake it still freaked me out!)

Schmitt, former director of special investigations for the prestigious and highly respected Center for UFO Studies in Chicago, brings his long-standing knowledge of the famous UFO incident at Roswell, N.M., to Beloit College. Schmitt will present his lecture on Tuesday, April 17, at 7 p.m., in the Richardson Auditorium, in Morse-Ingersoll Hall, on the Beloit College campus.

Schmitt will deliver an eye-opening lecture on the widely debated incident that occurred near Roswell, N.M., in July 1947. The names, the people, the places, the accounts and the challenges will be detailed by Schmitt, who has investigated Roswell for many years and has co-authored numerous books on the subject, including The Roswell Dig Diaries, The Truth about the UFO Crash at Roswell and Witness to Roswell: Unmasking the 60-year Cover-up.

Like most events at the college, the event is free and open to the public.

The Official History of "The RR3 UFO Specimen": CONCERNING THE ALLEGED ROSWELL UFO PIECE

This is a response to many inquiries that I have received concerning the alleged "Roswell UFO Piece" (a.k.a. "RR3") given to me on Aug 19, 1995.

Numerous bogus claims have been made "long after it was scientifically proven" that the piece was very terrestrial! Why these claims continue should be obvious to your readers. The science is in…I just checked (again!) with numerous scientists on this "find".

"The RR3 Specimen" is not a part or piece of a UFO. I now wish I had never seen the object or been a party to this seemingly endless attempt to make this object into something it is not. This includes recent statements by some that the object defies camera filming.

That's funny! Mike Portanova filmed it with great skill and beauty. In fact, most of the photos taken of it are his excellent work." But now, science and the scientists have spoken. I think its time for others to be quiet.

Royce Meyers, the "Watchdog of UFOlogy," hit the nail right on the head in his UFO updates statement recently. Royce is a cop and a good one…it was his discovery concerning the cattle mutilation on our site that opened up the find of "Pure bovine Hemoglobin" (by Nancy Talbot/Dr. W.C. Levengood).

Royce is a friend to Ted Oliphant (the Fife, Alabama cop who's brilliant work on cattle mutes left all of us wondering) and both are friends of mine. Both men are "stand up guys." Like the Agatha Christie twist in Murder on the Orient Express, there have been many killers of the American Republic.
There is of course the obvious culprit, finally and widely acknowledged these days. This is the Spirit (and reality) of Empire, which has provided a none-too-subtle knife in the back. Since the days of Rome, people have understood the incompatibility of republican institutions with the tools of conquest and empire. By the time of Caesar, for instance, Roman rule stretched throughout the Mediterranean, dominating peoples as diverse as those under American military hegemony today.
The problem back then was that the old Roman Senate, already with five centuries of history behind it, was designed for ruling Romans–in Rome. The Senate managed well enough during Rome’s conquest of Italy in the third century BC, and even during the pivotal Punic Wars with Carthage. But ruling faraway (and valuable) lands like Gaul and Egypt were not so simple. Caesar knew this as well as anyone. Solution: end of the Republic, and the creation of such offices as Dictator for Life. Then, after his assassination, Emperor. Indeed, we may wish to remember that Caesar’s successor, his nephew, the Emperor Augustus, stated that his own absolute rule was only temporary, and that he eventually intended to restore the republic.
Ultimately, republics cannot wear the armor of empire. That is because two central principles of republican philosophy–freedom and self-government–wither under its weight.
Empires mean war. Wars mean the stifling of dissent and constriction of free thought at home. This happens every time. Repeat: every time. It has happened in America today. Freedom of expression is a meaningless concept if everyone thinks the same. It is how dissenters are treated that enables us to measure how free a society is.
Empires also prevent people from governing themselves. That is because wars destroy truth. Without freedom of information from the elected and appointed leaders of our government–that is, without truth–how can ‘the people’ rule? This was a point heavily emphasized by America’s Founding Fathers. “An enlightened citizenry,” wrote Jefferson, “is indispensable for the proper functioning of a republic.” Madison agreed: “The diffusion of knowledge is the only true guardian of liberty.” But as Phillip Knightly observed in his classic study of the subject, the first casualty in war is truth. This fact is once again in evidence regarding America’s current fiascos in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The so-called War on Terror is simply the latest manifestation of the new order of things, of what we may call the Permanent Warfare State. In such a situation, the old republican virtues of freedom and self-government cannot survive.
One might argue that Empires don’t have to result in reduction of rights at home. Look at Britain, not a republic of course, but at least a “liberal” monarchy. The British Empire spread around the world, and Brits enjoyed a higher degree of freedom than many other peoples, at least during the Empire’s heyday during the 19th century. That’s true, but the other side of it is that we don’t know how free the British people would have been without Empire. And let us not forget that there was also a great deal of “unfreedom” in Britain, even during glory days of Britannia.
The American Empire Lest you doubt that America is indeed a bona fide empire that garrisons the world, consider that according to the Pentagon itself, the U.S. military has 860 bases in 41 foreign countries. That’s twenty percent of all the nations on Earth.

"PHOENIX, ARIZONA – Calls poured in to police and TV stations last night after many residents of the metropolitan Phoenix region observed a line of four bright lights near the horizon in the western sky at approximately 8 p.m. Arizona time.
Videotape of the lights was taken and broadcast on local TV news programs shortly after the incident occurred.
According to news reports, military officials stated the lights were flares being used as targets during Marine Corps and Air Force pilot training operations nearby.
Officials said a training exercise was being conducted by the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma at the Barry Goldwater Gunnery Range west of Phoenix.
In addition, six Air Force F-16s based at Luke Air Force Base on the west side of metro Phoenix were also participating in training exercises that involved flares, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
